OCBC steps up for Myanmar with humanitarian aid after earthquake

OCBC commits $50,000 to emergency relief in Myanmar following a devastating earthquake, reaffirming its historic ties to the country.

· Aid supports urgent relief including food and hygiene supplies

· Staff welfare programme launched in Myanmar

· Public donations enabled through OCBC banking channels

OCBC is donating $50,000 through the Singapore Red Cross to aid communities in in Myanmar devastated by the March 28 earthquake. The money will be used to provide basic relief such as food, potable water, blankets and hygiene kits for the affected families. Apart from monetary assistance, the bank has initiated a staff support programme to secure the welfare of its Myanmar-based staff and their families.

OCBC has a history of more than 70 years in Myanmar. It started business in 1923 under Oversea-Chinese Bank, which subsequently merged into OCBC in 1932. Following the operation of a branch in Rangoon until 1963, the bank re-entered as a representative office in Yangon in 1994 and received regulatory approval to reopen a full branch in 2015. This heritage supports OCBC's rapid and sincere response to the crisis.

Community support through accessible donation channels

From 3 April 2025, OCBC customers can make contributions towards relief through various channels such as ATMs, internet banking, mobile banking and phone banking. Donations will be channeled to the Singapore Red Cross to assist in ongoing emergency operations.

This effort is a testament to OCBC's long-standing affinity with Myanmar and its support for communities in adversity.
